Get the Specs Right — or Let Us Do It for You

When it comes to commercial HVAC systems, your coils are at the heart of your system’s performance. But when one fails — whether due to corrosion, wear, or an unexpected system change — replacing it isn’t as simple as clicking “add to cart.” Ordering the wrong coil can lead to improper fit, poor performance, and frustrating delays that impact both your schedule and your bottom line. Here is what you need to know before ordering commercial coils.

At Re-Coil Solutions, we specialize in custom-built coils tailored specifically to your system’s needs. Whether you’re dealing with a tight retrofit situation or an aging unit with hard-to-source components, we’ve made the coil replacement process easier and more accurate. Here's what you need to know to make sure you get the right coil — and how we can take the guesswork out of the process entirely.

Why Custom Coils Matter

Not all coils are created equal, and they’re definitely not interchangeable. Even small differences in dimensions, materials, or connection locations can mean the difference between a smooth install and a major headache. Off-the-shelf coils may seem convenient, but they’re rarely a perfect match — especially in commercial or retrofit situations.

That’s why custom coils are often the best solution. Whether you're replacing a discontinued OEM part, adapting to site-specific constraints, or simply trying to improve system efficiency, a properly built custom coil ensures you get exactly what you need — no cutting corners, no compromises.

What You Need to Order the Right Commercial Coil

To get started with a custom coil order, you'll need to gather some basic information about your system. The most critical details include the type of coil you’re replacing — hot water, chilled water, steam, DX (evaporator), or condenser — and the physical dimensions: height, width, depth, and finned length.

Tube diameter and material are also important, as are fin specifications (including the material and fins per inch). You’ll want to note how the coil connects to the rest of your system — whether that’s sweat, threaded, or flanged connections, and whether they’re on the same or opposite ends. Performance data such as airflow (CFM), entering/leaving fluid temperatures, and system pressures help us fine-tune your design for optimal efficiency.

You don’t have to be an engineer to collect this information, but it does need to be accurate — and we understand that, in the field, that’s not always easy.

Don’t Have the Specs? We’ll Come to You.

If all of this sounds a little overwhelming, you’re not alone. Many of our customers are dealing with decades-old equipment, incomplete documentation, or simply don’t want to risk an incorrect measurement. That’s exactly why Re-Coil offers onsite coil measurement services.

We’ll take all the critical measurements, gather the data we need, and ensure the replacement coil we build is a perfect fit — without you having to worry about missing a single detail.
